After allegedly assaulting a paramedic who had been dispatched to city police headquarters to treat his breathing difficulty, defendant Nyreece Speck pulled “free from one of his restrains” and therefore had to be sedated, it was stated in an affidavit.

Speck, 25, of 210 Smith Court Circle, Linden, had been taken into custody in the 500 block of Arch Street about 3:30 a.m. Sunday because of his intoxication as well as his “aggressive and loud” behavior, police said.

Sometime after arriving at police headquarters on Nichols Place, “Speck stated he couldn’t breathe and that he needed an inhaler,” according to the court document.

Speck lied on the floor, and an ambulance was dispatched, police said.

When paramedics arrived, “Speck refused all medical treatment. He then forcibly grabbed a paramedic’s wrist and pulled it towards himself,” police alleged in the affidavit. Soon he broke free from one of his restraints and had to be sedated, police said.

Speck was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport, and upon being discharged, he was arraigned about noon before District Judge Kirsten Gardner on a felony charge of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
