Eldred Township woman charged with eighth offense of driving with a suspended license, DUI and drug related charges
Although she already has been convicted seven times for driving a vehicle with a suspended license, that did not stop Jacqueline Jean Slaven from again getting behind the wheel of her 2017 Jeep Wrangler and driving on the night of Sept. 26 when a Lycoming Regional police officer stopped her for a vehicle code infraction on Route 220 in Piatt Township.
It turned out that not only was the 48-year-old Eldred Township woman impaired, but she tried to “conceal incriminating evidence” by tossing a bag of suspected methamphetamine onto the ground moments after the 10:15 p.m. stop, police alleged.
Investigators believe Slaven, of 170 Pinecrest Drive, lot 3, was under the influence of some kind of drug, but she refused to submit a blood sample, it was stated in an affidavit.
She told the officers it “had been years” since the last time she used any drugs. The Jeep was impounded after officers spotted suspected drugs and paraphernalia in the vehicle.
On the night of the stop, police learned that there already was a bench warrant for Slaven’s arrest because she had failed to appear last year in court for a previous DUI offense. She was automatically placed in the Lycoming County Prison on the warrant.
After obtaining a search warrant, police went through the vehicle, finding drug paraphernalia and “a large amount of crystal-like substance, believed to be methamphetamine, the court document stated.
Slaven, who has since been released from jail, was arraigned Tuesday night before District Judge Kirsten Gadner on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI and four summary offenses, including her eighth offense of driving with a suspended license.
She was released on $75,000 bail.
