Firefighters battle blaze at church in Williamsport

Teams of firefighters were working firefighters a two-alarm blaze that broke out at Calvary Baptist Church at 42 Washington Boulevard at the intersection with Packer Street about 8:10 p.m.

Wednesday.

Smoke was reportedly pouring from the church basement when Williamsport firefighters arrived on the scene.

The platoon chief immediately ordered a second alarm, that brought additional equipment and more manpower from Old Lycoming Township, Montoursville, Loyalsock Township and South Williamsport.

Spreading quickly throughout the large structure, smoke made it’s way to the roof.

Working on the city’s and Montoursville’s aerial ladders, firefighters did their best to try to stop the fire.
