Bail denied for alleged kidnapper in Williamsport carjacking

Bail was denied Monday for Tyree Moy after he was arrested on charges of allegedly kidnapping a female acquaintance in the city’s Newberry neighborhood on Sept. 17, according to Williamsport police.

The victim, who was driving, said she was flagged down by Moy near West Fourth Street Funston Ave about 1 p.m., according to an affidavit.

“Moy showed ‘the butt’ of a black firearm in his hoodie pocket as he entered the vehicle,” the court document stated.

Seeing the weapon left the victim “terrified for her life,” she told police.

Moy ignored the woman’s repeated orders to get out of her car, telling her to “shut up and drive,” the affidavit stated.

Moy ordered the woman to stop in the 600 block of Wildwood Boulevard, where an unidentified man got in her back seat.

She was instructed to drive to Wildwood Cemetery, where Moy got out of the car as the back seat passenger suddenly grabbed the woman’s hair and violently forced her head back, police were told. She was also struck in the side of the head, police said.

A struggle over the car keys ensued, resulting in Moy taking them from the victim, police said.

It was alleged that Moy tried to force the woman into the car’s trunk, but when that failed, he forced her into the backseat, the affidavit stated.

The two men drove her a short distance through the cemetery until the identified man, who was now in the driver’s seat, stopped and pulled her out of the car, police were told. The men then fled with her car, police said.

Someone notified law enforcement and an ambulance also was dispatched to the cemetery. Paramedics treated the woman for her head injuries, police said.

The car was later recovered in the 1500 block of Mount Carmel Street, but the woman’s cellphone, purse and wallet were all missing as was $1,000 in cash, police said.

Moy, 39, of 1438 1/2 Memorial Ave., was brought before District Judge Christian Frey and arraigned on felony charges of kidnapping, robbery, theft, receiving stolen property as well as two misdemeanors, false imprisonment and simple assault. Moy was committed to the Lycoming County Prison. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for next week.

Starting at $2.99/week.
