Local roundup: Montoursville sees success in track and field dual at Central Columbia
Montoursville traveled to Central Columbia to compete in a track and field dual meet in boys track and field action. Team results were not made available.
In the 800, Montoursville saw sophomore Bryce Winslow run a time of 2:01.19, beating out teammate Sean Frey by just 0.03 seconds in a great race that came down to the wire. Montoursville’s Christian Banks leaped 19 feet, 6 1/2 inches to win the long jump. Banks was also a third-place finisher in the 200 in 24.95.
In the 3,200, Tyler DeVore of Montoursville ran an 11:17.90, losing to Central’s Ean Brink by just 10 seconds, to take second place.
Loyalsock, Montgomery, Meadowbrook Christian and Mifflinburg traveled to Turbotville to compete in a quad meet at Warrior Run. Team results were not made available for the event.
Loyalsock’s Anthony Lewis ran a time of 23.04 to win the 200 by nearly half a second over Warrior Run’s Eli Butler. Warrior Run’s Maxwell Fogleman won the 400 in 54.84 and in the 800, Montgomery’s John Shrimp won with a time of 2:06.50, winning by three seconds over Sam Hall of Warrior Run.
Cashlin rogers of Loyalsock ran a time of 4:47.90 to win the 1,600 by half a second over Braego Cieslukowski of Warrior Run.
Aiden Hoffman of Warrior Run won the 3,200 in 10:59.00.
Montgomery’s Jace Hanford cleared 5-8 to win the high jump.
Warrior Run finished 1-2-3 in the pole vault with Ryan Kemock winning (11-0) followed by Gideon Kennel (11-0) and Ori Kennel (10-6).
In the discus, Loyalsock’s Jeremiah Johnson won with a throw of 126-4.
Central Mountain’s Cooper Bottorf, a senior, won two events in Central Mountain’s dual against Selinsgrove in boys track and field. Team results were not available.
Bottorf won the discus by throwing 138-8, winning by 13 feet, and claimed a victory in the shot put by throwing 42-2, winning by roughly a foot.
In the high jump, Central Mountain junior Billy Newman won the high jump by clearing 6 feet. Bryce Warren took second by clearing 5-8. Newman was also a second-place finisher in the long jump with a distance of 19-4, just an inch behind Selinsgrove’s Matthew Stebila.
Central Mountain’s Sam Wible ran a time of 50.90 to win the 400 by roughly two seconds.
In the javelin, Central Mountain went 1-2-3 with Jonathan Hughes winning with a throw of 159-2, Ethan Shetler taking second (124-11) and Owen Kaler finishing third (112-7).
Central Mountain’s Damien Winner took second in both the 1,600 and 3,200. In the 1,600, Winner ran a time of 5:11.51 and in the 3,200, he took second thanks to running a time of 10:49.20.
Jersey Shore fell to Shamokin, 106-46. The Bulldogs’ Zack Kendall won the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.00, winning by three seconds. Kendall also was a second-place finisher in the 110 hurdles (16.00), just 0.10 seconds behind Shamokin’s Colin Steinhart.
Ryan Bickert of Jersey Shore won the 200 in 22.60, edging Benny Delbaugh of Shamokin by 0.10 seconds.
The Bulldogs’ Jake Machmer won the discus with a distance of 114 feet, 7 inches, winning by two feet over teammate Blake Oglesby. Jersey Shore’s Brady Allison was also a second-place finisher, doing so in the 3,200 with a time of 11:20.80.
Djy Monny took second in the 400 (58.60).
Milton hosted Danville in a dual. Team results were not made available.
The Black Panthers’ Cole Rhodes was a three-event winner. Rhodes won the 100 in 11.57, jumped 21-4 1/4 to win the long jump and cleared 43-4 to win the triple jump.
Kade Ficks won the 200 in 23.11 and in the 400, Milton’s Izayah Minium won in 54.30. The Black Panthers’ Joel Langdon ran a time of 15.31 to win the 110 hurdles by roughly three seconds. Ficks won the 300 hurdles in 40.15.
Langdon also cleared 6-2 to win the high jump.
• Montoursville’s girls track and field team competed in a road dual against Central Columbia. Team results were not available.
Montoursville seniors Lila Phillips Ellie Maeulen both won two events for the Warriors. Montoursville had the top 3 finishers in the long jump as Phillips won with a distance of 14-7 3/4. Leah Kaufman took second (14-4) and Sidney Boyle was third (14-0). Phillips also won the triple jump with a leap of 31-1 1/2.
Maeulen won the javelin by throwing 111-4, winning by a foot over Lyndsey Hostetter of Central Columbia and Maeulen won the shot put by throwing 33-3 1/2.
Kendall Simms won the pole vault by clearing 10-6.
The Warriors also had a 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault as Kendall Simms won by clearing 10-6. Allie Eberhart took second (8-6) and Marissa Mahonski took third (8-0).
Elizabeth Wanner of Montoursville won the 800 with a time of 2:32.64, winning the race by 10 seconds over Central Columbia’s Erin Prezioso.
Montoursville’s Faith Berwanger won the 100 hurdles in 17.25, just beating out Central Columbia standout Haley Bull by 0.06 seconds. Bull won the 300 hurdles while Berwanger took second in 49.85.
Loyalsock, Montgomery, and Meadowbrook Christian traveled to Turbotville for a quad meet with Warrior Run and Mifflinburg. Team results were not made available.
Warrior Run’s Natalie Hall ran a sub-minute in the 400 (59.64) to win and Raygan Lust won the 800 with a time of 2:32.70. The Defenders also saw Claire Dufrene win the 1,600 by running a time of 5:15.20.
Loyalsock’s Abby Pietraski won the triple jump with a distance of 32-7, beating out Montgomery’s Rihanna Arrendondo (30-10). The Lancers’ Gianna Stelle claimed a victory in the discus with a throw of 80-9, winning by just over five feet against Montgomery’s Nova Bartlett.
Montgomery sophomore Anali Pick won the shot put with a throw of 30-2. Zaryah Hawkins-Pegues of Loyalsock took second (28-7).
Central Mountain competed in a girls track and field dual against Selinsgrove. Team scores were not made available.
Central Mountain junior Jocelyn Wiseman was a two-event winner for the Wildcats. She won the 100 hurdles race in 16.64 followed by teammates Macia Owens (16.97) and Sarah Hall (17.04). In the 300 hurdles, Wiseman rana. 51.09 to win by less than a second over Gigi Veach of Selinsgrove.
Central Mountain junior Grace Keohane won the 1,600 with a time of 5:43.34, winning an extremely close race down the wire over Ashtyn Lukens by 0.28 seconds.
Central Mountain’s Lillian Downing won the high jump by clearing 4 feet, 8 inches and took second in the long jump with a leap of 14-7 1/4.
Central Mountain’s Macy Plowman won the 200 with a time of 27.80.
The Wildcats’ Camryn Bair took second in the 800 in 2:41.45.
Anna Sick, Olivia Spotts and Aaralynn Kimble were all two-event winners while Sick and Kimble were part of a winning relay team as Jersey Shore secured a 76-64 win in a dual against Shamokin.
Sick ran a time of 1:02.40 to win the 400 by three seconds and won the 100 in 13.40, winning by 0.10 seconds over Ameera Williams of Shamokin. Kimble claimed victories in the 300 hurdles in 49.40, just beating out teammate Josie Gerst, and also won the 200 in 27.10, beating Sick by just 0.10 seconds.
Kimble, Gerst, Peyton Dincher and Sick won the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:18.20.
Spotts won the discus by throwing a distance of 94-9 1/2 and won the javelin with a throw of 125-2. Nina Steppe won the shot put with a throw of 32-9 and was second in the discus. Jersey Shore also saw Gerst win the 110 hurdles in 17.90.
Milton competed against Danville at home in a dual meet. Team results weren’t made available.
Milton senior Camron Roush claimed three victories to help the Black Panthers. Roush ran a time of 12.99 to win the 100 and a 27.28 for a win in the 200. The senior also won the long jump with a leap of 16-1 3/4.
Milton’s Evalynn Keister won the 300 hurdles in 49.52, winning by 0.17 seconds. She also was a third-place finisher in the 100 hurdles.
Elizabeth Schrock of Milton won the triple jump with a distance of 33-9 1/4. Emily Beaver of Milton won the pole vault with a height of 8-6. The Black Panthers also saw Amelia Gainer win the javelin with a throw of 111-7.
• Leah Vest went 2 for 3 with a triple and four RBIs and Muncy scored 23 runs in just two at-bats, routing Millville, 23-2 in three innings. Chevelle Bauman struck out three in two innings and drove in two runs, while Taylor Shannon was 1 for 2 with three RBIs and two walks. Savannah Thompson and Hayley Thompson both went 1 for 1 and drove in runs and Rachel Paulhamus was 1 for 1 with an RBI and two runs.
Montoursville rallied from a three-run third inning deficit and Kayleigh Sheleman was 3 for 3 with an RBI and run as it won, 7-4. Nevaeh Montoya went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, while Avery Cozzi also drove in two runs. Emily George was 2 for 3 with three runs and Julie Friel threw a four-hitter. Montoursville scored four runs in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead and did not trail again. Lakesha Hauck hit two doubles and had two RBIs for Warrior Run, while Sienna Wise was 2 for 3 with a run and RBI.
Montgomery scored 14 second inning runs and produced multiple runs in all three at-bats, defeating CMVT, 21-2 in three innings. The Red Raiders improved to 6-0 as every starter reached base. Arianna Snyder tripled and Zoe Furman, Chloe Gordner and Addi Muhl all hit doubles. Muhl drove in three runs and Furman two, while also scoring four times. Madisyn Miller and Aleaha Grimm both were 1 for 1 and scored five runs.
Mariah Hallabuk homered, doubled and drove in three runs as Sullivan County defeated Sugar Valley, 26-2 in four innings. Hallabuk was one of 10 Griffins who produced 15 hits. Kayla Fowler went 3 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and four runs. Emilia Viveiros also had three hits, threw a three-hitter and struck out seven.
• Kayden Keefer drilled a walk-off single, scoring pinch-runner Jacob Baylor as Loyalsock won a 6-5 thriller in eight innings against rival Southern Columbia. Keefer went 3 for 3 with three runs as the Lancers (3-3, 2-0) won their third straight game and remained tied for first in the HAC-III with Warrior Run. Baylor was injured last week but made a big impact while playing with a taped up thumb, stealing two bases and helping set up the game-winning sequence. Deryk Kulp earned the win as Loyalsock rallied from a 4-3, fourth inning deficit. He, John Kiehl and Drake Dupont had hits and Jaydn Wagner added an RBI.
Tanner Baker put together a big day, going 4 for 4 with five RBIs and earning a two-inning save while helping Muncy defeat Bloomsburg, 13-11. Baker helped set the tone for Muncy which scored eight runs in the first inning. The Indians produced a season-high 11 hits and Nick Delany, Liam Adams and Kase Snyder all collected two. Delany doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice, while Snyder also doubled and scored twice. Snyder scored two times and Kynton Fish was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Jameson Barlow was one of five freshmen starters and earned his second win, scattering five hits in five innings.
The Kirby brothers provided double trouble for Mifflinburg, helping Montoursville cruise to a 15-0, five-inning win. Logan threw four innings of shutout baseball, combining with Royce Bowes on a three-hit shutout, while Noah went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs as Montoursville improved to 3-0. Jonah Heddings slammed a home run and drove in three runs, while Bowes was 3 for 4 with a double and RBI. Brayden McCourt reached base four times, going 1 for 1 with three walks and an RBI.
Tadd Lusk went 3 for 5 with four RBIs and Chance Quimby threw 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief as South Williamsport thundered back from a four-run fourth inning deficit and defeated Canton, 13-6. Lusk also doubled, stole two bases and scored, helping South score six times in the fourth to go up, 8-6. The Mounties (3-2) scored 11 runs in their final three at-bats with Torin Haug hitting an RBI double and driving in two runs. Cade Lusk was 1 for 1 with three runs. Quimby struck out four in his 3 2/3 innings to earn the win and Levi Butler was 1 for 2 with two walks, an RBI and run. Ben Fitch went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs for Canton.
St. John Neumann also showed off its resilience and overcame a four-run deficit at Northwest, scoring 18 runs in its final five at-bats to win, 19-10. The Knights (5-2) produced eight hits and drew 16 walks with every starter reaching base. Avery Taddeo went 2 for 5 with four RBIs and Angelo Birch was 2 for 4 with two walks and three runs. Kane Meixel also had two hits and two walks, and Nolan Fagnano had a hit, two walks and two RBIs. Andrew Walter earned the win on the mound and was 1 for 4 with two walks and three RBIs.
Landen Wagner continued his hot hitting, belting a triple and double, while driving in two runs as Lewisburg defeated Milton, 10-7. Cohen Hoover also had two hits with two RBIs and freshman Lincoln Ayres was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Freshmen Landynn Bieber and Cole Shannon combined on a four-hitter with Bieber earning the win and Shannon throwing two hitless innings for the save. Monty Fisher was 1 for 1 with two RBIs and two runs for Milton.
Wellsboro exploded for 12 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 17-0 rout in three innings over Sayre at home. Alec Magli went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs for Wellsboro while scoring three runs. The Green Hornets also saw Max Mascho go 3 for 3 with three RBIs and scored twice.
• Lewisburg and Loyalsock boys tennis teams battled it out, with the match coming down to the last match on Doubles Court 2. There, the Green Dragon duo of Colby Jacob and Olin McIlwaibe would clutch things out for the team, winning the third set 6-4 to grant Lewisburg a 3-2 win.
That win completed a sweep of doubles for the Green Dragons, but straight-set victories from Loyalsock singles players Evan Anderson – No. 2 – and Ian Bower – No. 3 – allowed the Lancers to remain in the match. Will Cecchini earned the lone singles win for Lewisburg in dominant fashion, dropping a combined three games on Singles Court 1.
With the win, Lewisburg has now won eight in a row to start the season. It also ends an eight-game win streak for Loyalsock.
Rain Snyder edged out a tight second set by way of tiebreaker, as Montoursville completed a straight-set sweep over Shikellamy, never dropping a set behind dominant play.
No. 1 singles player Teli Bobotas and No. 1 doubles duo Cullen Pauling and Colby Ulmer shook off early blemishes, as both swept their second sets. And No.2 doubles duo Mason Fry and Mason Morrow weren’t far behind them, dropping a combined three.
Saul Hensler won a three-set, 29-game slug fest over Selinsgrove’s Ben Rowan and Nathan Lauver and Grant Renn turned the tide following a first-set defeat, granting Jersey Shore boys tennis the wins it needed to post a shutout 5-0 victory over the Seals. After losing 7-5 in the first, Lauver and Renn won the second set, 6-3, before scraping by in tiebreakers to seal the deal.
South Williamsport’s Carson Harris bounced back from a first set loss to defeat Central Columbia’s Ben Kehres by a score of 2-6, 6-4, (10-8) on Singles Court 3, granting the Mounties their lone point in a 4-1 loss to the Bluejays on Wednesday. Outside of that match, Central Columbia was mostly dominant, but South’s No. 1 doubles duo, Lucas Bower and Dylan Webb, kept things interesting, ultimately dropping the match in a 10-8 tiebreaker.
The Central Mountain boys tennis team defeated Milton in dominant fashion on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping the Black Panthers, 5-0, to find some momentum in what’s been a challenging start to the season.
Wesley Cowart won a three-set bout on Singles Court 3, bouncing back from a tough 6-2 defeat in the first set. And No. 1 singles player Joey McCluskey edged out a tight, 7-6 win to complete the team’s fifth straight set win on the day.
North Penn-Liberty lost to Towanda, 4-1, to drop to 1-8. Liberty’s lone win came at No. 4 singles where Talon D’Angelo defeated Ethan Lane, 6-0, 6-1.
At No.3. singles, Liberty’s Silas Boiywo lost a three-set contest to Matrix McCarter, 6-4, 5-7, 10-5.
Wellsboro defeated Muncy, 4-1. Lucas Cuneo earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No.1. singles against Michael Howard and at No. 2 singles, Mason Brill defeated Muncy’s Clynt Oden, 6-1, 6-4.
Muncy’s win came at No. 2 doubles where Bryce Eckard and Alex Puzo defeated Stephen Poirier and Liam Elkin, 7-5, 6-4.
Central Mountain defeated Milton, 5-0. Joey McCluskey won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-6; Tim Brinker won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-1; and at No. 3. singles, the Wildcats’ Wesley Cowart won in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Brayden Spedding and MItchell Borges won at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-3 and at No. 2 doubles, Tim Brinker and Owen Stringfellow picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
• Penn College fell, 18-8, to Kean University in a nonconference men’s lacrosse match. The Wildcats dropped to 9-4, while the Cougars improved to 11-3.
Kean led 7-1 after the first quarter and 13-3 at the break. The Cougars outscored Penn College, 3-0, in the third, while Wildcats went 5-0 in the final quarter.
Owen Kupsey led PCT with four goals, while Will Ehret finished with a trio of scores, and Elliot Dotson dished out a team-best three assists.
Three Lycoming College players — sophomore Brogan Wooley, senior Sean Farrell and senior Shayne Wilson — posted hat tricks as the Warriors won their first Landmark Conference game of the season, 13-7.
Senior Ben Franco saved 17 shots in the cage for the Warriors (5-6 overall, 1-4 Landmark), becoming the 17th player in Division III history to reach 900 career saves and finishing the game 15th in Division III history with 908 saves. Alongside the trio of three-goal scorers, senior Joey Hoover added two goals. Farrell clocked four assists — followed by Wooley and Hoover, who contributed two each.
• Makayla Kelly found the back of the net a game-high six times to headline the Lock Haven women’s lacrosse team’s 13-12 victory at Gannon in a PSAC Western Division battle. With the victory, the Bald Eagles move two games ahead for the battle for the third position in the PSAC West by improving to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Gannon falls to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the West.
Kelly scored six goals and dished out an assist to finish with a game-high seven points.
Emma Williams scored twice and dished out a game-high four assists to finish with six points.
• Senior Danny DeLucas and sophomore Eric MacCluen each had two hits to lead the Lycoming College baseball team, as it fell to first-place Wilkes University, 6-5, in Landmark Conference action.
The Warriors (15-13 overall, 7-6 Landmark) took a two-run lead in the third inning, as junior Nick Hoheb and junior Nick Reeder, a Montoursville graduate, each walked before scoring on a two-out error.
After Wilkes scored a run in the bottom of the inning, the Warriors scored a run in the fourth, as junior A.J. Llorente, a Montoursville graduate, and Hoheb each doubled. In the fifth, Lycoming scored two more runs to make it 5-1, with DeLucas and sophomore Sean Perkins each singling with one out before scoring on a groundout and a fielding error, respectively.
• Senior Avery Eiswerth – a Williamsport graduate – tossed a two-hit, 10-inning, 2-0 shutout for the Lycoming College softball team in the first game of Wednesday afternoon doubleheader against Wilkes at the Ralston Athletic Complex, helping the Warriors split the series. Wilkes won the second game, 4-0.
Eiswerth (4-4) tossed to just five batters over the minimum in the win, as she walked three and struck out eight during the 137-pitch effort.
The Warriors (9-9 overall, 2-6 Landmark) wrapped 10 hits in the game, but didn’t break through until the international tiebreaker was enforced in the 10th inning.
With junior Kristen George – a Montoursville grad – at second base, freshman Jocelyn McCracken – a Jersey Shore grad – singled up the middle, setting up a sac fly from junior Claire Alexander – South Williamsport grad. McCracken moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an opposite field single from junior Alex Eckerson.
Blaire Balestrini hit for the cycle during the two games, including a grand slam to highlight Lock Haven’s 7-0, 9-1 sweep over Mansfield in a PSAC East doubleheader.
With the sweep, the Bald Eagles improve to 11-17 on the season and 5-13 in the PSAC East.
Balestrini finished the day 6 for 7 with a grand slam, a triple, two doubles, four runs scored and five RBIs.
Talia Ross and Keri Wesneski provided quality starting pitching during the two victories and the offense put up 16 runs on 17 hits.
In game one, Wesneski pitched a gem and Balestrini finished 4-for-5 with two doubles to lead Lock Haven to a 7-0 victory.
• All-American Matthew Muthler was earned the prestigious Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Winter Top-10 Award. The prestigious honor is the second for Muthler in his career. The senior was named to the Spring PSAC Top-10 following the outdoor track and field season in 2022-23.
The Top 10 Awards, selected by the PSAC’s sports information directors, recognize student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom, as well as in the arena of competition. The conference designates Top 10 Award winners after each of the sports seasons: fall, winter and spring.
• The Lock Haven tennis team traveled to Indiana (Pa.) to open its 2025 Spring PSAC Western Division schedule on Wednesday afternoon.
Indiana (Pa.) won the match 7-0.
Indiana (Pa.) swept doubles play to earn the match point, before taking all six singles matches. Montoursville graduate Alaina Marchioni won a set at No. 5 singles.
