Local roundup: Sock boys tennis falls in tight match vs. Central Columbia
On Wednesday afternoon, the Loyalsock boys tennis team faced its second District 4 power in three days, battling it out against Central Columbia at home. Though it fought hard and was able to pick up two wins in singles, the Bluejays would sweep doubles to counteract that effort, edging out the Lancers, 3-2.
Evan Anderson endured a three-set brawl at Singles Court 2, shaking off 1-0 set deficit and edging Central Columbia’s David Toscano out in a third-set tiebreaker, 9-7, to win his match 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7). Ian Bower won in straight sets at Singles Court 3 and Colby Peters fought hard, falling just a few points short of extending his match at 1.
After dealing with a tough opening slate, the Lancers will look to bounce back on the road at Wellsboro on Friday as they pursue their first win. That match is set for 4 p.m.
In a game marked with nine ties, senior Andrew Ednie found himself open on the weak side for the game-winning goal with 17 seconds left, lifting the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team to a come-from-behind 16-15 victory over King’s College (Pa.) in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at McCarthy Stadium.
Senior Joey Hoover led the Warriors with eight goals, an assist and four caused turnovers. Matching Hoover with nine points, senior Sean Farrell also added three goals and six assists while joining Hoover in the 100-point club with the last assist on the goal from Ednie, becoming the 22nd player in school history to reach the mark.
The Lock Haven lacrosse team opened its 2025 PSAC West schedule in a big way on Wednesday afternoon, soaring to a 16-6 victory on the road at Edinboro to earn its second straight win and improve to 4-3 on the season.
The Haven outscored the Fighting Scots 10-2 in the first half and never looked back. Gabby Gunnip led the offense with a hat-trick, while Emma Williams, Lexi Bunk, Kaitlyn Collins and Jordan Ellis each finished with two goals. And in goal, Gretchen King earned the goalkeeper victory, finishing with six saves.
