In a tight game with eight lead changes, sophomore Alyssa Reisinger posted 31 points and senior Meghan Dufner contributed 28 to lead the Lycoming College women’s basketball team in a 128-115 setback against Goucher College in Landmark Conference action on Saturday in Lamade Gym.

Besides leading the team with points, Reisinger also recorded 11 rebounds and three assists in Lycoming’s first 30-point game since Erica Lutz had 31 against Arcadia on Feb. 8, 2020. Senior Ashley Yoh added 11 points and nine rebounds and Dufner posted seven rebounds and six assists. Senior Mya Wetzel added 16 points, drilling five first-half 3-pointers, her second-most this season.

Junior Allison Fisher also contributed 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists for the Warriors (2-13 overall, 1-7 Landmark) and junior Kami Abdo added nine points and six assists, while senior Alicia Goldenziel added six points and six assists.

Lycoming, which shot 50% (35 of 70) from the field, finished with the most points in a game since beating Penn State Hazleton, 118-56, in the 2018-19 season opener. They hit nine free throws and shot 75% at the free throw line (36 of 48).

Goucher started out with an early lead in the first quarter, notching two consecutive layups before Yoh added two free throws to the board. Abdo hit a layup a minute later, but Goucher bounced back with four layups to widen their advantage. Reisinger contributed three layups in two minutes, and Fisher came in with a jumper to push the Warriors within three points of the Gophers. In the sixth minute, Yoh returned to the free throw line to add two more to the scoreboard, and Abdo followed up with a layup, bringing the score within a point at 17-16.

Goucher responded with two layups, a 3-pointer, a free throw, and a jumper all within the seventh minute of the first quarter. Attempting to close the gap, Yoh made a layup and a free throw, senior Alicia Goldenziel added four free throws and a layup, and Wetzel posted a free throw. With less than a minute left in the first quarter, Wetzel drained her first 3-pointer of the game, bringing the score within three points again. After the Gophers made a layup with 18 seconds left in play, Fisher hit a three-pointer that brought the Warriors within two, 34-32, at the end of the quarter.

Wetzel launched a 3-pointer less than a minute into second quarter play before Dufner followed suit with two 3-pointers of her own within thirty seconds of each other. Building off this momentum, Fisher made a layup, pushing the Warriors to a 43-38 lead. Dufner returned to secure a layup and Wetzel flushed two 3-pointers through the net to continue growing the Warriors’ advantage. In the fifth and eighth minutes, Reisinger added layups to the board before Wetzel returned to hit another 3-pointer with two minutes remaining. Reisinger and Dufner finished out the period with successful free throws, helping the Warriors enter halftime with a 64-55 advantage.

Twelve seconds into the third quarter, Abdo claimed the ball and hit a layup that set a positive tone for the period. Dufner made four free throws and Reisinger added two more in the first five minutes, helping lead Lycoming’s early efforts. Dufner followed up with a layup and five more free throws. Reisinger contributed two layups back-to-back in the eighth minute and ended the third quarter with a tip-in shot at the buzzer 

Reisinger kicked off the fourth quarter with a layup, and Fisher followed up with a 3-pointer off a fastbreak before Reisinger returned with another layup in the second minute. Fisher added a layup in the third minute and the fifth minute, but the Gophers responded with two jumpers, three free throws, and a layup. Goucher claimed the lead with a 3-pointer in the sixth minute, but Reisinger helped Lycoming regain its advantage with free throws. The Gophers answered by securing free throws of their own that gave them a one-point lead, but Abdo immediately scored a layup, changing the advantage again. Goucher finished the game on a 21-9 run in the last 3:22 to pull away for the win. 

Amira Whitaker led Goucher (11-4 overall, 4-4 Landmark) with 32 points. Meona Boykin also added 28, Nia Edens had 18 and Merci Turner 16.

The Warriors return to the Lamade Gym on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. for a Landmark Conference game against third-ranked University of Scranton.
