Lock Haven football looks to bounce back vs. West Chester
After nearly beating East Stroudsburg on the road last week, Lock Haven heads to West Chester for a noon kickoff today in college football action.
The Bald Eagles dropped 3-5 this year following a 38-35 loss to East Stroudsburg. It was another game this year the Bald Eagles were in until the end and had a chance at winning.
Lock Haven led 35-30 entering the fourth quarter before Tahir Mills had a 14-yard touchdown run to make it a three-point lead with 8:44 to play. The Bald Eagles had chances following the score, but couldn’t drive to tie the game or take a lead.
Jackson Ostrowsky once again had a big game in the air, as he went 17 for 36 for 281 yards and threw four touchdown passes. Lock Haven had success on the ground as well as Damir Green had 13 carries for 89 yards, averaging 6.8 per carry.
Ostrowsky had six players catch a ball in T’iar Young (6 for 127), Corahn Alleyne (4 for 54), Chris Hicks (3 for 36), KJ Howard (2 for 35), Quon Williams (1 for 20), Nino Cinti (1 for 10).
West Chester enters today’s game with a 3-5 mark after beating Millersville last week, 41-23. While the Golden Rams struggled throwing it last week — Jordan Cooper was just 5 for 12 for 131 yards — three of those five completions were for touchdowns as Cooper also ran for 218 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 14.5 per carry on the ground. Cooper is a dual threat that Lock Haven’s defense will have to key in on throughout the game.
Cooper has 822 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns this season in addition to throwing for 1,553 and 13 touchdowns.
West Chester’s defense has been solid despite it’s record. Connor Noble (2), Matt Marshall (2), Abdul Stewart (2), Shane Mosley (1), Kaleb Brown (1) and Daniel Hicks (1) hae combined for nine interceptions, seven quarterback hits and 18 pass breakups this year. The Golden Rams’ defense also has accounted for 18 sacks in eight games, led by Debrick Johnson’s 3 1/2 and Seamus McCain’s 3.
Lock Haven’s goal entering this year was to reach six victories, and the Bald Eagles will need to win out the rest of its schedule to reach that goal. That starts today at West Chester and closes with games at home on Nov. 9 against Shippensburg and a road-finale at Gannon.
