Bucknell’s Takats wins EIWA nod in wrestling
LEWISBURG — Bucknell wrestling dueled #8 Minnesota aggressively and No.27 Myles Takats (174) pulled off the upset over No. 16 Clayton Whiting to record the Bison’s sole points of the 35-3 defeat. His feat earned him Bucknell’s first EIWA Wrestler of the Week since teammate Noah Mulvaney received it on Nov. 7, 2023.
“I am so proud of Myles as he continues to improve each and every week,” said Bucknell coach Dan Wirnsberger. “He is a leader on and off the mat. I am excited to see his continued growth throughout the season.”
Takats has been Bucknell’s hottest wrestler to start the 2024-25 campaign posting a 4-0 record with three results coming via technical falls. The sophomore was a NCAA qualifier last year after finishing sixth at the EIWA Championships and has wasted no time picking up where he left off already equaling his 2023-24 total (1) of defeating nationally-ranked opponents.
Takats sits at 29-16 for his young career and is poised to hit the 30-win mark soon. He is the top returning finisher in the EIWA at 174 lbs. after his sixth place finish in last year’s Championships and looks to be top-ranked in the upcoming November EIWA rankings.
Whiting grabbed the early 6-2 lead before Takats launched a comeback with an escape and a takedown tying the bout at 6-6 entering the third period. Whiting used a reversal to go back in front but Takats escaped and took Whiting down to seize the 10-8 lead and he went on to win with riding time, 11-9.
Takats and the Bison head to the annual Navy Classic this Saturday.
