Lyco women’s soccer recognized for success, enters Region V rankings
For the second time in three years, the Lycoming College women’s soccer team has entered the United Soccer Coaches Regional Rankings, sitting eighth in Region V, as well as the NCAA Regional Rankings, sitting seventh, as the last week of the regular season gets underway.
The Warriors, 5-2-1 in the Landmark Conference, are second in the conference with Stevens, sitting behind only 14th-ranked University of Scranton. The Warriors have won a program-record 13 games this season, posting 13-2-3 record, with the team notching 10 shutouts this season.
The team’s offense is one of the best in the region, averaging 2.11 goals per game with three players in the top five in the Landmark Conference in points – sophomores Mikayla Long – a Lewisburg grad – and Ella Magee are both tied for third with 21 points and junior Aubrey Williamson is fifth with 19. Long and Magee are tied for second in the league with nine goals and Williamson leads the conference with seven assists.
Lycoming is two points ahead of Elizabethtown with one game remaining in the conference schedule, a faceoff against each other on Saturday at UPMC Field at 1 p.m. The winner of that game will earn a bye into the semifinals of the following week’s six-team Landmark Conference Championship. A tie also earns the Warriors the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
