Martha Elizabeth (Brown) Rommelt

It is with great sadness that the family of Martha Elizabeth (Brown) Rommelt announce her passing at the age of 98. She was the daughter of the late Martha Elizabeth Good and Harold Willard Brown.
Martha was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church. She married George Theodore Rommelt on June 10, 1950. They were together for over 46 years until his passing in 1997. Martha received her BA from American University and MA from Bucknell University. She taught English and US History at South Williamsport Area School District and did substitute teaching in Williamsport Area School District after she had children. Martha was member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Junior League, and the American Association of University Women. Throughout her life she was actively involved in community volunteerism and was an usher at the Community Arts Center and Lector at Christ Episcopal Church until her early 90s.
She lived a physically active life. Martha was a daily walker well into her late 80s, and active in the YMCA programs including Silver Sneakers in which she often was awarded the “Silver Sneaker Award”. Unlike all the mothers at the pool who sat in the sun, she did laps and fancy dives off the high board. Martha was an equestrian in her younger years.
Martha was an absolutely voracious reader- every New York Times bestseller plus a multitude of other authors constantly until her last trip to the hospital. She was an accomplished pianist, played the viola, and was a grammar and vocabulary purist.
Martha was calm in a crisis and a very resilient person. She was always healthy. Though it was best to avoid her in the morning until she had her first sip of coffee. Among her other skills she was talented seamstress who created beautiful dresses and clothes for her daughters, doll clothes, and creative, authentic Halloween costumes. She wasn’t a great cook, but luckily, George was. Like her mother, she never forgot anythingÃ- no detail, no person, no date, no price, none of her children’s youthful indiscretions- no relevant or random information was ever lostÃ- ever. Martha had a good sense of humor, but boy that woman was stubborn. She will be greatly missed.
Martha is survived by her five children, Martha Elizabeth (Gary Patrick) Callahan of Montoursville; Linda Ann Rommelt of South Williamsport; Brenda Diane (Howard Culver, Jr.) Berthold of Williamsport; George Theodore Rommelt, Jr. of State College; John Randolph Rommelt of Williamsport; seven grandchildren, Ryan Patrick (Sarah Margaret Young) Callahan of Williamsport; Erin Elizabeth Cromley of Williamsport; Ann Chatham Cromley of Berkley, Calif.; Gerry Dee Scott, IV of Gettysburg; Martha Elizabeth Scott of Glasgow, Scotland; Jessica Leigh Rommelt of Pittsburgh; Stephanie Louise Rommelt of New York City; two great grandchildren, Xavier Joaquin Meza and Sadie Louise Callahan; and a nephew, Harold Willard “Trey” Brown, III of Palisade, Col.
In addition to her parents and husband, George; Martha is preceded in death by her brother, Harold W. Brown, Jr. on December 24, 2024, and sister-in-law, Candice Hopler Brown.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Martha’s name to Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry St., Williamsport, Pa 17701.
