Jon R. Engel

Jon R. Engel, 82, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Valley View. Born on October 15, 1941 in Philadelphia. He was the son of Catherine Kimick and Charles Joseph Engel. He was the 7th son of eleven siblings.

Jon was a 1960 graduate of Jersey Shore High School. He attended Williamsport Technical Institute to be an electrician. Jon was a member of Local 812 IBEW, Knights of Columbus Council 4738, a member of the 4th Degree, a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church and a life member of Hepburn Township Volunteer Fire Company. Jon served his country in the Army Reserve.

Jon was called “Mr. Fix-It”, he was always working and fixing things. He had a big heart and was always volunteering at the soup kitchen. Jon enjoyed watching the Phillies games.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Wachter Eck Engel; three children, Jon F. (Lonna) Engel, Williamsport, Jason (Kate) Engel, Williamsport, Jacqueline Engel, Pottsville; five grandchildren, Dalton, Bryonna, Rileigh, Harper, Carter; three great grandchildren, Leona, Adalynn, Thomas Dean Byers; four sisters, Alice Danneker, Mary Ellen Pepperman, Grace Callahan, Kathryn (Marvin) Waltz; sister-in-law, Roseann Engel; brother-in-law, William Wachter. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Leo, Caroline Todd, Gloria Steele, Charles Joseph, Dave, Thomas and one step-son Douglas Eck.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 702 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, with Reverend David Bechtel officiating. Burial will be private and convenience of the family. Visitation will be held at Kaufman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2102 Northway Rd., Williamsport, Pa on Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

The family will provide flowers and suggest memorial contributions in Jon’s name be made to Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, Pa 17701.
