JoAnn M. Hessert

JoAnn M. Hessert, 92, of South Williamsport, passed away on September 27, 2024, at Valley View Nursing Home.

Born February 7, 1932, in Newberry, she was the daughter of Harry and Bessie (Harmon) Goodbrod. JoAnn shared 56 years of marriage with her husband Louis Hessert before his passing in 2007.

JoAnn worked in Food Service at South Williamsport Area School District for over 40 years, and she was the Food Service Director later in her career. She and Louis were members of South Williamsport United Methodist Church.

She is also preceded in death by: her parents, her sisters Dorothy Bastian, Hedy Probst, Maxine Stokes, and brothers Harman, Earl, William, and Kenneth Goodbrod.

JoAnn is survived by her loved ones: her son Gary Lee Hessert (Jean) of Williamsport, two grandchildren: Aimee Hessert Canfield (Doug) of Shepherdstown, WV, and Jake Hessert of Williamsport; and one great grandson: Landon Canfield. She was very devoted to her family and was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She and Louis built their home at 342 Stanton Street, South Williamsport in 1964 and made it a gathering place filled with love, warmth, and wonderful memories. She was a talented cook and planned delicious family meals and thoughtful celebrations. She always took the time to add extra touches that made her family feel special.

JoAnn also loved growing a beautiful flower garden at their home in the summers. In later years, she enjoyed quilting, baking with her grandchildren and great-grandson, and sitting on the patio watching the birds.

A funeral service to honor the life of JoAnn will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 8 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m.- 1 p.m. at Sanders Mortuary.
