Muncy man charged in Sunday carjacking

A man placed on county probation this summer was arraigned late Wednesday morning on charges stemming from Sunday afternoon’s carjacking, city police said.

Taken into custody earlier this week, Tiler Martin Wood, 27, formerly of Muncy, has been charged with numerous felonies, including robbery of a motor vehicle, robbery, theft, receiving stolen property plus misdemeanor charges of simple assault and criminal mischief, all filed by Williamsport police.

The charges stem from Wood carjacking a 2009 Toyota Camry just before 3 p.m. in the 200 block of West Fourth Street, police alleged in an affidavit.

With what appeared to be a handgun under his shirt, Wood opened the car door and told the driver to get out of the vehicle, police said

Fearing for his life, the driver complied, police said, adding Wood allegedly got in and took off.

Surveillance cameras recorded the entire incident, and police — from their prior contacts with him — were able to identify Wood as the alleged carjacker, court documents stated.

The victim’s car was found abandoned a short time later on St. David’s Road in Loyalsock Township, police said.

Wood, who is currently homeless, was arrested by state troopers in Carbon County on Monday in yet another carjacking, this one in their jurisdiction, according to court officials.

Wood was arraigned by a district judge there and placed in the Carbon County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. Efforts to get any details Wednesday from state police about this incident were unsuccessful. He has been charged with robbery of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle and related offenses, according to a court official.

From the jail, he was arraigned via video by District Judge Aaron Biichle and incarcerated in lieu of an additional $150,000 bail.

In August, Wood was placed on parole after he was convicted of a state police charge of simple assault that stemmed from him slapping his girlfriend in a vehicle in Muncy Township in late November 2023.

Starting at $2.99/week.
