One killed, another injured in crash near Barbours
BARBOURS – One person was killed and another was injured when their car crashed early Wednesday morning into a large tree on Route 87, near Little Bear Creek Road, in Plunketts Creek Township, according to Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr.
Officials were still trying to reach some family members about 10 a.m., and the victim’s name will be released after all those concerned have been told, he said.
Killed was the 21-year-old driver from Lycoming County, who was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries, Kiessling said.
The driver was heading south on Route 87, went off the road and struck a large tree about 12:45 a.m., he said. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, he added.
A female passenger in the vehicle was injured and taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport. There was no information on her identity or medical condition.
Plunketts Creek Township firefighters and ambulances from Montoursville responded to the crash. State police at the Montoursville barracks were leading the investigation.
