County’s libraries plan events for National Library Week

The six libraries of the Lycoming County Library System will observe April 6-12 as National Library Week, an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and communities.
The first National Library Week was observed in 1958 with the theme “Wake Up and Read!” The 2025 theme is “Drawn to the Library,” which honors the impact that libraries have on their surrounding communities. The theme illustrates the idea that everything in a library draws you to it, and there is something to bring everyone there.
Libraries offer free resources that bring families together, inspire hope in the community, expand education, and help build lasting relationships. They offer programs available for newborns to adults with expansive topics. Not only do libraries supply the community with books, but they also lend items like museum passes, board and video games, and toys. Additionally, libraries reach community members by providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for businesses, job seekers, and entrepreneurs. The library is one of few places that provides an inclusive and supportive community where everyone belongs.
The following events are also celebrated during National Library Week:
• Monday, April 7: Right to Read Day, a day for readers, advocates, and library lovers to take action to protect, defend, and celebrate the right to read. The American Library Association (ALA) kicks off National Library Week with the release of its State of America’s Libraries Report.
• Tuesday, April 8: National Library Workers Day, a day for library staff, users, administrators, and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.
• Wednesday, April 9: National Library Outreach Day (formerly National Bookmobile Day), a day to celebrate library outreach and the dedicated library professionals who are meeting patrons where they are.
• Thursday, April 10: Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to rally advocates to support libraries.
If you haven’t visited your local library in at least two years, your library card may have expired! Stop in to easily renew it. At the library, you can check out more than just books. With our ever-growing collections, there is something for everyone.
The Lycoming County Library System supports the PA Forward statewide initiative, which believes that when Pennsylvania residents improve their command of five types of literacy – basic, information, civic and social, health and financial – they can achieve greater success as students, parents, employees, consumers, as citizens. The Lycoming County Library System includes Hughesville Area Public Library, James V. Brown Library (Williamsport), Jersey Shore Public Library, Dr. W.B. Konkle Memorial Library (Montoursville), Montgomery Area Public Library, and Muncy Public Library. Visit lclspa.org for more information
