Gerald J. "Jerry" Thomke passed away on Aug. 12 peacefully at his home in Lakeport, Calif., which he referred to as "heaven on earth." He was the husband of the late Marlys (Fillmore) Thomke, whom he married in December 1961. Born in Williamsport on March 19, 1931, he was the son of the late Frederick J. Thomke and the late Violet L. (Polcyn) Thomke. Jerry served in the U.S. Army, graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor's of science degree in aeronautical engineering, and earned his master's degree in engineering from the University of Southern California. He worked for McDonnell Douglas aerospace company for 32 years as a research engineer before retiring, and truly was a "rocket scientist." He was an avid fisherman, caring husband and father and a loving grandfather.
