School lunch prices are expected to increase during the 2014-15 school year at Jersey Shore Area School District.
The school board met Monday evening and was informed by Business Manager Adrienne Craig that lunch prices will be raised 10 cents - increasing lunch prices in the elementary school to $2.10, and in the secondary schools to $2.20. Breakfast prices will remain the same at $1.10.
Craig said that the price increase is due to the Paid Lunch Equity, which according to usda.gov, states that "school program regulations ... require school food authorities participating in the National School Lunch Program to ensure sufficient funds are provided to the nonprofit school food service account for meals served to students not eligible for free or reduced price meals."
According to the website, "There are two ways to meet the requirement, either through the prices charged for paid meals, or through other non-Federal sources provided to the nonprofit school food service account."
The board voted 8-0 to purchase new stage curtains for the middle school at $6,854, after being informed that they needed replaced when the board recently approved new stage curtains for the high school and Salladasburg Elementary School. The current curtains at the middle school are handmade, and the audience is able to see through them when the curtains were closed. By ordering the stage curtains with the orders from the other two schools, the board was able to save $2,000.
Ken Berkich, from Fidevia, gave an update on the Jersey Shore Elementary project, that included about 15 possible change orders that total $52,929. The board will vote on the change orders at their next meeting.
Some of the updates that Berkich showed the board included, new curbing and sidewalks, retaining wall, work in the kitchen, and steps outside the kindergarten wing.
