WELLSBORO - Every year the Northcentral Area Health Education Center of Pennsylvania recognizes medical preceptors who display outstanding teaching practices. This year, the center recognized Dr. Herbert Roberts, as one of its Preceptors of the Year.
The recognition is awarded based on evaluations of the preceptor's clinical expertise, demeanor and instruction by medical students in his or her rotation and an AHEC committee.
Roberts practices at Tioga OB/GYN and performs a wide range of women's health, prenatal and obstetrics care, including labor and delivery at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, general gynecological surgery, prenatal care, cancer screenings, fertility evaluation, hormone replacement therapy, post-partum care, menopausal management, tubals, hysterectomies, treatment of fibroids, pap smears, wellness physicals and breast examinations.
Dr. Herbert Roberts, of Tioga OB/GYN at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, poses with Rebecca Charles Northcentral AHEC executive director.
"Dr. Roberts is one of our most requested preceptors," said Susan Gage, health professions training coordinator. "His dedication to the students and their experience in rural medicine is noted in many student evaluations."
Rebecca Charles, the center's executive director, added, "Dr. Roberts is a valuable member of our team, providing leadership and guidance as both clinical director/ medical liaison and as vice chair of the board of directors, but his skill as an instructor of students is perhaps where he shines the most."
The Northcentral AHEC center, located in Wellsboro, spans a ten-county region in the central portion of Pennsylvania.
It supports communities in meeting their primary care needs by facilitating continuing education, recruitment, retention and training, as well as collaborating with health systems and medical schools to offer medical student rotations in rural areas.
