Probably most well-known for her brutal honesty and shocking physical fitness training techniques on the reality TV series "The Biggest Loser," Jillian Michaels seems to always find a way to not only get noticed, but also get results.
Michaels, a personal trainer and health and wellness expert, will bring her live show, "Maximize Your Life," to the Community Arts Center stage, 220 W. Fourth St., at 3 p.m. March 23.
During her show, Michaels will break down three of the health aspects she feels are most important: self, science and sweat. "Science" will cover nutrition and how to eat right to lose weight and keep the weight off; "sweat" will cover fitness techniques to get the best results out of a workout in the least amount of time; and "self," as Michaels said, is the most important part of the show.
"It's the 'how-to' of transformation," she said in an email interview with the Sun-Gazette. "Getting to the bottom of why we get stuck and giving people the tools to get unstuck and excel."
The interactive show also will allow audience members to ask Michaels their health, fitness and wellness questions and share ideas and thoughts with her.
Michaels said that losing weight is simple - eat less and move more. But the bigger questions she will address are, why are people not simply eating less and moving more to reach their weight loss goals, and where else might they be stuck in their lives and why?
"Over the two hours, I give them the tools to connect with their true passion, redefine their self-image, and build belief in their capabilities and finally impart the information and the tools so that the choices they make and the actions they take yield powerful, positive results," she said.
Michaels, who as a child battled weight issues herself, said those issues she struggled with were part of why she decided to help others improve their health and wellness.
"... I learned at an early age that when I felt strong, physically, it transcended into every facet of my life," she said. "I was given the help and the tools and with those things I was able to not only turn my life around, but excel. I want to give to people what I was given. I am so lucky and blessed and I feel strongly that it's not only my passion, but my obligation to help people in the very same ways that I was helped at a younger age."
During the show, Michaels will provide the audience with seven rules for maximizing their lives and to begin a transformation immediately. Those rules are:
1. Lose weight and get in the best shape of your life.
2. Live in your truth.
3. Redefine your self-image and dramatically improve your confidence and self-worth.
4. Create a winning attitude.
5. Establish support.
6. Build will power.
7. Maximize productivity.
Michaels said every person she has had the pleasure of working with has been memorable to her in many ways. What makes her work memorable to her, is that it allows her to feel connected.
"When I am able to positively impact someone's life and share in a part of their journey, it's the most rewarding, fulfilling feeling. It's truly an honor and it's why I love what I do," she said.
Michaels said listening to and trusting your gut is key, and she attributes her worst mistakes in life to not believing in herself and trusting her own feelings.
Everyone is motivated in different ways to make the changes in their lives that they seek. When asked what motivates her to live a healthy and positive lifestyle, Michaels replied, "In my 20s, it was skinny jeans. In my 30s it was my career. Now as I approach 40, it's my family ... as well as skinny jeans and my career."
Michaels promises to not only inform her audiences, but also entertain them with humor. She may be serious about fitness, but isn't afraid to throw in some jokes to put her audiences at ease.
For those who feel stuck and are seeking fulfillment, Michaels said there are answers to the questions when you feel lost and solutions to the problems that might seem unsolvable.
"There is nothing that can't be accomplished once we have the support, knowledge and tools," she said.
