The Academic Decathlon of Central Pennsylvania held its second competition for the 2013-14 year. At the winter meet, held Dec. 16 at Moshannon Valley High School, Houtzdale, competitions were held in math, economics, science and social science.
Penns Valley High School, Spring Mills, was the winner. Of the local teams, South Williamsport came in second out of eight schools, Montoursville was third and St. John Neumann Regional Academy came in fifth.
Montoursville medal winners were: Honors division - Amelia Deacon, 11th, gold in math. Scholastic Division - Haylee Young, 11th, silver in math, economics and science; Alyssa Kriner, 12th, gold in economics; and Logan Bomboy, 12th, bronze in math. Varsity division - Hunter Burleson, 12th, silver in social science and economics and bronze for overall score; Michael Leight, 12th, silver in math and bronze in economics; and Jerry Blaschuk, 12th, bronze in math.

Also competing for Montoursville were seniors Aiyana Allanson, Coral Klinger and Clara Wright; sophomores Ashley Cipcic, Emily Lucas and Joey Rose; and freshman Matt Marks.
The next competition will be Jan. 31 at Penns Valley High School. Results at that event will determine which teams will qualify for the state finals, to be held in Souderton High School outside Philadelphia in February and March.
