Today is Sunday; a day for us to minister to our people at church and to worship the Lord. I always look forward to this day of refreshment. Even so, I can't help but think ahead to tomorrow, Monday, when our new thrift store location is opening to the public. We already have our thrift store off the Pennsdale exit but this store is in Garden View on Dewey Avenue, right across from Pepsi and Loudenslager's Carpet. This is providing several new jobs to folks in our community and equally as important, a place for folks to purchase affordable clothing and home items while supporting the programs of The Salvation Army in our community. Folks can even bring their articles of donations right to this facility. Santa, I thank God for providing this wonderful location for us and for having all the plans fall into place, even during this busy Christmas season when so many other things are going on at the same time. This also leads me to reflect on our myriad of volunteers who help to make everything happen and who so graciously give of their time in all of our programs; not only at the thrift store but ringing the bell at a kettle, sponsoring and purchasing gifts, packing and distributing toys and food, working in our food pantry, mentoring to our youth and adults ... the list is endless. It makes me treasure this following scripture verse that God tells us about His nature even more:
Hebrews 13:5 - "Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you."
God always is with us in everything we are doing. Even when it gets overwhelming, He helps us to persevere and to make it through. Whew, it's a good thing Santa, because some of these days feel awfully crazy!
I've taken up enough of your precious time Santa ... I'll let you get back to organizing the elves and I'll talk to you again next time!
