Whew, I am sure you can relate to this Santa when I say I am flat out "pooped" this morning! I stood six hours on the Wal-Mart kettle ringing on Tuesday and then came home and spent four hours making that oatmeal peanut butter filled sandwich cookie recipe for our cookie exchange at The Salvation Army last night. I'm getting ready to go back out to Wal-Mart and stand by the kettle again, but I have such a deep concern about what is ahead for us this year Santa.
Donations are extremely behind from previous years and it's been quite challenging to get enough volunteers who are willing to ring the bell every day for us. I really hope we will be able to meet all the needs of our community this year.
I do understand it's a tough time for everyone. Schedules seem to be so full that even when people would like to volunteer, they literally don't have enough time left in their day. Or folks that pass by the kettle or receive a letter requesting donations feel bad because they always have given in the past, but they're just not able to do it anymore. People are working two and three jobs to just get by.
It reminds me of that Herbert Hoover quote we have on the wall in our home; "About the time we can make the ends meet, somebody moves the ends."
One thing I do know, though, is that God always has been faithful and He is in total control. And so what can we do for the time being? We continue to trust. He hasn't ever let us down yet, and so I don't believe He will let us down now. This verse encourages me and I hope it encourages you as well, Santa during this hectic time of year:
Isaiah 40:31 "But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
Time to run Santa. Say hi to your elf friends for me and I'll talk to you again when I get a chance.
