BLOOMSBURG - Centralia, an area virtually uninhabited for decades, will be put on display by photographer Garrett Hansen in Bloomsburg University's Haas Gallery.
The photography series will be featured from Oct. 23 until Nov. 22, with a reception for the artist, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. including an artist lecture at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7.
While the coal fire that began in 1962 in Centralia burns still, the surrounding borough has been all but abandoned. In the "Centralia Series," Hansen documents the transformation of the landscape through natural growth and regeneration.
It also reveals the effect humans have had on the landscape through negligence and indifference.
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The Haas Gallery of Art is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday.
