Things are starting to happen at the Clinton County Fairgrounds in preparation for its sixth annual Christmas In The Barns. This year's event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Every barn will be filled with vendors.
There will be Christmas shopping and a horse shoe pitching contest. Sign up will be at 8:30 a.m., with pitching beginning at 9 a.m. The fee to enter is one new unwrapped gift for a boy or girl.
Something new this year will be the "Cutest Elf Contest" for ages 12 and under. Pictures of children will be placed on a container and the visiting public will be able to vote by placing money in the containers. The winners will consist of one boy and one girl who will both receive a $25 Wal-Mart gift card.
Businesses and organizations are invited to participate in the Christmas Tree decorating contest. The winning business or organization will receive a free 8-by-10 vendor space at the 2014 Clinton County Fair.
Attendees also may enter the contest "Best Christmas Cookie" in the County. Bring 13 plated cookies and a copy of the recipe. Judging will begin at 11 a.m. with winners announced at 1 p.m., at which time the cookies will be auctioned off by local auctioneer, Harry Schenck.
Santa also will be available in his hut. There will be food as well as a Chinese raffle, door prizes and horse drawn sleigh rides.
Admission and parking for the event is free.
