The final quarter of the Williamsport game and the first quarter of the State College game haven't been kind to Central Mountain.
Already in a difficult position by taking on State College in its home opener, Central Mountain initially caught a break when a State College 60-yard touchdown was called back after a hold.
The reprieve was quick though, as the Little Lions' Pat Irwin scampered down the sideline for a 44-yard gain on the ensuing play. A similar sequence happened in the second quarter when State College called for a re-kick. Once again, State College made the most of the next play, as Derek Van Horn returned it to the 1 yard-line.
Central Mountain showed sides of life, but fell as State College rallied in the second quarter en route to a 71-28 victory.
Irwin completed all but two of his passing attempts for 97 yards and two touchdowns. He also finished with 92 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdowns.
Irwin led the Little Lions (1-1) with 1,484 passing yards as a junior last year. He continued to build on his junior season, throwing for 71 yards and rushing for another 106 in State College's 14-10 loss to Liberty.
The Week 1 loss left Irwin steaming, as the team failed to convert two scoring chances inside the final eight minutes. Irwin was also stopped on a fake punt in the third quarter, which helped set up Liberty's game-winning touchdown.
Friday night, Irwin played like a guy with a chip on his shoulder.
His 44-yard run on State College's first official play from scrimmage helped setup the Little Lions' first touchdown. He also found John Weakland for a 37-yard score.
All told, Irwin completed passes of 37 and 24 yards for touchdowns. He also rushed for a 33-yard score and a 1-yard dive for a score.

At Montgomery, Keith Habersham's 36-yard fourth-quarter run averted a shutout as Montgomery fell to Southern Columbia. Habersham finished with 72 yards on 4 carries.

Brown also caught a 60-yard pass to set up Muncy's fifth touchdown, an 11-yard run by Junior Ramos.
Muncy built a 43-0 halftime lead against a team that had recorded a shutout last week. The Indians improved to 2-0.
