The Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries has announced that the Friends of the James V. Brown Library won the 2013 Newsletter of the Year Award.
The award is presented to the best Friends group newsletter in the state of Pennsylvania. The award will be presented at the annual Pennsylvania Library Association Conference in Seven Springs on October 20. The Friends of the James V. Brown Library are excited to be the recipient of such an honor and are thrilled to showcase their efforts.
The Friends of the James V. Brown Library's newsletter, "Shades of Brown," is a partnership between library staff and the Friends.
The newsletter, which has been in existence since 2002, provides an opportunity for both the library and the Friends to connect and share resources with the community. The newsletter is mailed to each member of the Friends and to library donors, and is electronically available on the Friend's page of the library's website.
As demonstrated in each issue of "Shades of Brown," the newsletter is created by dedicated people, bound together like pages in a book, who have the strength to achieve great things. A partnership was born between library staff and the Friends to work together to promote one another, educate the community on the value of public libraries and encourage volunteerism.
Barbara McGary, executive director, believes, "it is a tremendous opportunity for the library and the Friends to learn about each other and promote our common love of the local library."
For this reason, McGary nominated the Friends of the James V. Brown Library for the Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries Newsletter Award.
