William F. Rowles, 89, of Isabella Street, Williamsport, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 29, 1924, in Clearfield, Pa., he was the son of the late Lloyd and Bessie (Foster) Rowles.
William came to Williamsport in 1933 where he was a member of Calvary Methodist Church. He attended high school until 1943 later he joined the U.S. Navy when he was 19. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. During that time, he attended U.S. Naval Training School and Armed Guard School where he took part in an anti-aircraft firing range. During his years of service, he served on the USS Vistula, USS Alcoa Voyager, USS Moffett, and USS Jack W. Wilke.

Bill managed Park Theater from 1950 to 1952 and later sold cars at Fred Beasley and H. K. Shearer Motors. He later owned his own business W. F. Rowles Sanitary Hauling for 38 years and retired in 2007 at the age of 83. He was a life member of Lodge 397, F.&A.M. and was a 32nd degree Mason. Bill also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and traveling to Las Vegas.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Patricia M. (Kennedy) Rowles; three sons, Craig Rowles of Williamsport, Michael Rowles (Debra) of Montoursville, Timothy Rowles (Susan) of South Williamsport; a daughter, Debbie Fisher of South Williamsport; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Thomas Rowles; a daughter-in-law, Mary Rowles and a son-in-law Jerry Rowland.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. Burial will be private.
