The Harlem Shake was the world's most popular dance in February. It consisted of a 30 second sound clip of Baauer's "Harlem Shake" song, as well as 30 seconds of erratic and wild dancing.
Everyone was doing the Harlem Shake; firefighters, cops, sports teams and even animals. As crazy as it sounds, yes they did have videos of animals doing the Harlem Shake.
What triggered the uprising of this new hip kind of dancing? Is it the creativity that individuals put into the dances? Or would it be the never-ending thoughts of how to make your video funnier than someone else's?
After seeing a plethora of videos dealing with this new Harlem Shake I would have to agree that every single one was the same, and different in many ways.
I've even seen some done at Mansfield University. Some students said they made the videos for the fun of it, and others said they just love to dance, so this new trend isn't anything special.
I talked to one group of students in particular, and they showed me their Harlem Shake videos; Adrian Alston, Jeff Burrell, Pablo Perez and Reese Garrison.
"I only participated in the Harlem Shake video because I wanted people to get a good laugh out of it," Garrison said.
"I really wanted to make one because I wanted to compare ours to some of the other good ones, and I think we're up to par," Burrell said.
I must admit these guys' video were both hilarious and very creative.
The originality in the Harlem Shake is what makes it a great scene to watch. It starts with one random person dancing while everyone else is minding their business and going on with their daily routines. After about 15 seconds, the beat drops and everyone goes dance frenzy.
What makes it different are the places the Harlem Shake is held at, the amount of people and the costumes. I personally like the costumes and the different dances the best.
Overall, the popularity of the Harlem Shake was at an all-time high. The whole trend started in early February, and there are millions of videos on the Internet with people having a ball.
There are people all over the world in several countries coming together for one mutual cause.
When something such as the Harlem Shake comes about, it shows the true side of who we are as people.
Behind all the glamour, money and miscellaneous things we have, we as individuals bring out the true presence of joy we behold.
