LAPORTE - The 10th annual Sullivan County Victim Services' Victorian Tea will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Laporte Community Hall, 346 Muncy Street.
The Victorian Tea includes linen-covered tables decorated with fresh flower arrangements. Tea is served by ladies costumed in period dress and includes fancy sandwiches, scones and clotted cream, cookies, and tea. A special Teddy Bear tea area will be set up for children. Guests will be entertained by a string quartet during the afternoon.
After tea, guests are invited to tour the Baldwin House and its gardens. The gardens include both medicinal and culinary herbs as well as flowers popular between 1850 and 1890.
New this year will be the opportunity for guests to have a photograph taken on the Baldwin House patio. Props will be provided to recall the Victorian era. Pictures will be printed on-site. A donation is requested.
Sullivan County Victim Services is an off-shoot of Williamsport's Wise Options. It offers support and counseling for victims of domestic abuse and other crimes. A big part of its services is education, both in the schools and the community. Much of its budget comes from fundraising, necessary for the matching portion of many of the grants that fuel its programs. The Victorian Tea is just one event of its fundraising calendar.
Enjoy the atmosphere of the Victorian era while supporting the work of the Sullivan Co. Victim Services.
There is a fee for tickets and reservations are required by July 30. Make checks payable to Sullivan Co. Victim Services. Call 946-4063, or return the response card included in the invitation sent to last year's attendees.
