It seems that more and more young girls, as well as boys, are disappearing at an extraordinary rate today. Why is this happening? Is it because we are so self-observed or have the attitude that it is none of our business that this is occurring today? Today, Amanda Knox, Gina DeJesus, Michelle Knight and a six-year-old child are home now. How? Because a neighbor heard screams of help coming from a boarded up house and sprinted into action.
I can never know how they feel because I have never been that far. However, a pedophile in my birth city of Philadelphia kidnapped me and when told to move to the country I was molested by a grandfather next door. It began at the age of seven and then again at around nine or ten. Fortunately, I survived the abuse. However, you never forget such horrible actions. My prayers go out to those young women and hope they will have a safe life from now on.
Here, I need to make a confession, I never told my mother about the second molestation. It has been on my conscience ever since that he may have been still molesting other children. We must come out of our selfishness and care about another by making the commitment of paying attention to what is taking place in our own neighborhoods. Some may feel that that is the cop's job. A cop cannot be everywhere. They need our help to keep us safe. Moreover, we need to stop blaming others for our "I don't care" attitude.
