Picture this: You're wandering through the stacks at the library, or browsing through pages and pages of the online catalog, trying to find something to read on vacation or just to curl up with on the couch.
Wouldn't it be great if there was a psychic to suggest books - available through the library for free - based on what you've already read and liked?
The Lycoming County Library System now offers BookPsychic, available at www.jvbrown.edu. BookPsychic gives you high-quality suggestions drawn from the library's collections. As you rate more items on BookPsychic, you'll see more and better personalized suggestions for books, audio books, e-books and DVDs you can get from your library now. The more you rate, the better your suggestions will be.
You don't need to sign in or create an account, but you'll be able to save your ratings and suggestions if you do.
BookPsychic's suggestions are a partnership between Library Thing.com, a website for book lovers, and the Lycoming County Library System.
BookPsychic gives you personalized suggestions by analyzing your rated and saved items, comparing them to more than 200 million data points from LibraryThing members, and your library's catalog.
To help you zero-in on the books and DVDs you'll like better, BookPsychic divides the library's books into a number of categories, such as "History" and "Recent Fiction."
Within each category, BookPsychic highlights books and DVDs that are popular in your library and similar libraries.
The library also offers Personalized Reading Lists. Fill out an online questionnaire about your reading habits, likes and dislikes. When competed, our team of highly-trained library professionals will provide you with a list of 10 to 15 books available through the Lycoming County Library System complied into your very own Personalized Reading List.
The questionnaire can be found on the homepage of the library's website, www.jvbrown.edu. (If you'd rather not fill it out online, just ask and we can print a copy for you.)
