Lou Shaw, 74, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013 at her home in Hilton Head, S.C. Mrs. Shaw was born in Wellsville, N.Y., on Sept. 19, 1938, to Edwin Stuart "Pat" and Mary Elizabeth (Schen) Poling.
Lou was an outstanding daughter, wife, mother, teacher and athlete. She taught every level from first grade through college.
During her 32-year tenure at Mansfield University of Pa., she not only developed but also coached the women's swim team. She also served as coach of the cheerleaders. Lou was cited by PA Governor Robert Casey as an outstanding volunteer in PA for her work with the American Red Cross. Upon retirement, she was voted Professor Emeritus by her peers.
As an athlete, Lou won numerous league bowling championships, as well as the Moss Creek 9-holers golf championship in 2005.
Lou was quite interested in crafts as well. She excelled at knitting everything from mittens to sweaters, hats and more. Her last project was a very large, intricate latch hook rug.
Left behind to cherish memories are her husband of 52 years, Henry "Hank" Shaw; daughter, Lisa Henry; son, Stuart Wade Shaw Sr.; grandsons, Aaron Paul Beaver and Stuart Wade Shaw Jr.
Per Lou's request there will be a celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Bostwick Pavilion, in Moss Creek Plantation, Hilton Head Island, S.C.
