Merrill "Sonny" E. Ulmer, 74, of Jersey Shore, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Jersey Shore Hospital.
Born Jan. 24, 1939, in Williamsport, he was a son of Howard and Lora (Persun) Ulmer.
He graduated from Jersey Shore Area High School and Williamsport Area Community College. Sonny was a U.S. Army and Army Reserve veteran. He worked as a carpenter and worked for more than 20 years at Fairfield Auto Group in Montoursville.
Sonny was a member of the Maranatha Bible Church and the Crest Motor Club in Jersey Shore. He enjoyed collecting antique and classic automobiles, collecting vintage Hopalong Cassidy memorabilia and traveling.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce (Christine) Ulmer of Hall, N.Y., and Boyd (Lori) Ulmer of Palm Bay, Fla.; a brother, John Ulmer of Jersey Shore; an aunt, Dorothy (Persun) Watkins of Cogan House; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at State Road Cemetery, Cogan Station.
