Myers Elementary to hold spring concert
The Myers Elementary School choruses will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Muncy High School auditorium.
The groups performing will be the fourth, fifth and sixth grade choruses and the Myers Honors Chorus.
Selections for the program will include the Fourth Grade Chorus singing the traditional patriotic selection "Yankee Doodle" and "This Land is Your Land," by Guthrie.
The Fifth Grade Chorus will sing "A New Tomorrow," by Strommen and "Swingin' on a Star," arranged by Gilpin. A Jill Gallina selection entitled "Hands 'Cross the Ocean" and "Good Friends," by Dunbar will be sung by the Sixth Grade Chorus.
The Myers Honors Chorus will sing "When I Close My Eyes," by Papoulis and "Ragtime Town," by Estes.
The Elementary Choruses are under the direction of George A. Henry. Lucille Buck is the accompanist for the choruses. The public is invited to attend this concert.
Muncy High School to hold spring concert
The Muncy Junior-Senior High band and chorus will present their annual spring concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Muncy High School auditorium.
The program will open with the band performing selections including "Call of the Champions," by John Williams; "The Song of The Blacksmith," arranged by Loest; "A Nation's Prayer," arranged by Ployharand; and "Song for the Young," by Mitchell.
The instrumental portion of the program will feature three ensembles, including the Saxophone Ensemble, playing "The Muppet Show Theme," arranged by BoCook; the Clarinet Ensemble, performing "Colors of The Windarranged," by Del Borgo; and the Flute Ensemble playing "My Heart Will Go On," arranged by Moore.
The chorus selections for the program will include "Gloria In Excelsis," by Althouse; "Sing Every Morning, Noon and Night," by Robinson and "I'd Do Anything," from the musical "Oliver" arranged by Huff.
The Senior High Chorus will perform "I Am a Small Part of the World," by Albrecht and Althouse; and the Senior Ensemble will sing "For Just a Little While," by Albrecht. The concert will conclude with the band and chorus performing the Muncy High School Alma Mater.
The band is under the direction of Sherri Doebler and the chorus is under the direction of George A. Henry. Richard Cummings is the extra-curricular vocal and instrumental teacher. Lucille Buck is the accompanist for the choruses. The public is invited to attend this concert.
Bloomsburg to hold dance concert
BLOOMSBURG - Bloomsburg University's third annual Repertory/Ensemble Dance Minor concert will feature six world premiere choreographic works in performances at 3 p.m. May 5 and 7:30 p.m. May 6 in Carver Hall, Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium. Performances are free and open to the public.
The program will feature two works created by Julie Petry, assistant professor of theater and dance, and four created by students, as well as a dance reconstruction by visiting guest artist Teena Marie Custer of Slippery Rock University.
The audience can expect adult themes and language throughout the concert, Petry said. Topics range from the trauma of losing a young child to the life of prostitutes. The shows include an homage to a Detroit disc jockey, a tribute to recording artist Michael Jackson, a comedy about comic actor Charlie Chaplin and a duet depicting a spiritual and soulful interpretation of struggle.
Most of the students in the concert are minoring in dance and have completed either a technique class or choreography class to be in the performance, according to Petry.
Costume, make-up, lighting, sound and film design are contributed by BU faculty, staff, students and guest costume designer Jenny Kenyon.

Zumbathon at Lock Haven University
Lock Haven University will hold a Zumbathon at Hubert Jack Stadium, LHU's football field, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
It is $5 to enter or $3 if with purchase of a Zumbathon T-shirt. The proceeds will go to the Out of the Darkness Suicide Awareness and Prevention Walk taking place in Washington, D.C., on June 1.
Lock haven to hold QuickBooks workshop
LOCK HAVEN - The Small Business Development Center of Lock Haven University will hold an "Introduction to QuickBooks" workshop 1 to 4 p.m. May 8, at the SBDC Office, located at 301 West Church St. Get the details on how to use this small business accounting software for business needs. QuickBooks Pro 2012 software will be used for this training program.
The hands-on introductory class will cover chart of accounts, adding new accounts, items, customers and vendors. Attendees will learn how to track accounts receivable and accounts payable, record sales and expenses, and how to maintain a check register. Producing reports and backing-up data also will be introduced.
