If you're feeling imprisoned by your single status and are over the age of 21, a local organization may be able to help you break free.
Social Organization for Singles, S.O.S., was founded more than 20 years ago by three ladies who decided to have a singles dance. The club gives individuals the opportunity to meet new people and make friends.
"I've gained a lot of friends (from S.O.S.) over the years," said Dottie Blanchard, president of S.O.S. and member for 15 years. "It's a great place to meet friends, and single people, guys or girls."
Blanchard says that around 80 people attend their dances, and there are around 35 people in the organization.
"We have dances once a month, and about every other month we go out to dinner together," said Blanchard.
Blanchard says the organization also takes trips to see movies together.
The next S.O.S dance, which occurs every third Friday of the month, will be held April 19, with a 7 p.m. meet and greet, and dancing from 8 to 11 p.m. at Allenwood Social Hall. Cost to attend dances is $6 for members and $8 for non-members.
"Everyone pays their own way in," said Blanchard, "We had a good time the last time we went."
Members of S.O.S. pay yearly dues of $15 and receive a monthly newsletter that lists the clubs activities and member birthdays, free summer picnic for members and their families, discounts to S.O.S. activities and rebates on selected dinners.
Members also can attend monthly meetings before the dance to help organize dances and future activities.
