MONTGOMERY - A Leukemia Cancer Benefit for Brooke Wise will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. April 14 at the New Covenant Assembly of God church, 1270 Pinchtown Road.
The concert was organized by family friend Amy Barto, with the help of Brooke and her mother, Sherri.
Barto wanted to help because Brooke "is like a little sister" to her.
The band Crossfyre, above, will perform at a benefit concert for Montgomery resident Brooke Wise who has Leukemia.
"Her mom and dad were like my second parents growing up," Barto said. "I have seen the financial strain that this Leukemia has caused on Brooke and her family and I wanted to do something to help lessen the burden of medical bills and expenses."
Barto wanted to make the benefit a concert in order to spark more interest in the community. She contacted some musicians to see if they would like to give their time for the cause.
"The people I asked to perform were all friends of mine and they all jumped at the opportunity to donate their gifts and time for free," she said.
The performers will be Danelle Cressinger, Crossfyre and The Resolve Assembly, all local artists.
The New Covenant Assembly of God was chosen as the venue because it's Brooke's home church.
"Pastor James Pentz has opened up the church for us that day to do the concert," Barto said. "We are so thankful!"
Barto said that people should come out for the benefit because "Brooke is an extraordinary young lady."
"This cancer didn't stand a chance against her. She has faught with all her strength and trust in the Lord and she has a story to tell."
Brooke will present her story to attendees before the concert begins.
Admission is $10 at the door and all proceeds go towards Brooke's medical expenses. Children 12 and younger are free. Free desserts and drinks will be provided.
