As the artist selection committee of the William-sport Community Concert Association plans for its upcoming 86th season, the final concert of its present season is very much in the spotlight. The Philadelphia Organ Quartet concludes this year's season at 7:30 p.m. April 17 in the auditorium of the Williamsport Consistory, just off Market Square in downtown Williamsport.
Preparing for the unique nature of a performance by an organ quartet is uppermost in the minds of the Association and especially Williamsport's Robert M. Sides Family Music Center because the stage of the Consistory on the evening of the concert will be filled with four outstanding and beautiful consoles of the Allen Organ Company installed by the Sides Center.
As they have so many times in the 85-year history of the Concert Association, Sides has been there for many of its programs. For this concert, four Allen digital pipe organs - valued at $500,000 - and their audio equipment will await the four performing organists.
The Williamsport Community Concert Association will present The Philadelphia Organ Quartet at 7:30 p.m. April 17 in the auditorium of the Williamsport Consistory.
Philadelphia Organ Quartet concerts are characterized by dazzling musicianship leavened with large doses of humor and onstage banter between the players and sometimes the audience.
This concert will feature some classic organ compositions along with music written for band or orchestra, along with ragtime music and some surprises. Organists are Rudy Licente Jr., St. Rose Catholic Church, North Wales; Peter Richard Conte, Wanemaker Grand Court Organist; Michael H. Stairs, Philadelphia Orchestra Organist; and Colin B. Howland, Park Cities Church, Dallas, Texas.
Single tickets are available at $20, $30 or $35. A group rate for 10 or more is available. All seats are reserved. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Dorothy Maples at 323-6012. Cash or check made out to WCCA will be accepted (no credit cards) at the box office on April 17. The box office will open at 6:30 p.m., one hour before the performance at 7:30 p.m.
