Matt Brown is the owner of Lycoming Fence Co., a Muncy-area business that sells and installs various types of fences.
"We like to call ourselves a premier fence installation company," he said. "We think our customer service is better than anyone else's out there."
Brown counts himself among those young entrepreneurs striving to make their marks in the local area. He said his goal is to be the top fence installer in the county.
"You have to set your goals, and you have to strive to meet those goals every day," he said. "I want to be around for a long time."
Brown employs three full-time and two part-time people at his business. Brown, a graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology's construction program, started the business with his brother before assuming ownership. His wife, Erin, helps him run the operation.
He's quick to note that she's also around to provide plenty of advice. He considers Lycoming County and the surrounding region his principal market area. Brown said he enjoys working with residential and commercial customers and meeting their needs.
He sells and installs chain link, vinyl, agricultural and aluminum fences.
"We do exterior railings - aluminum, vinyl, wood," he said. "If they (customers) ask us to do a certain kind of fence, we do custom fencing as well."
He also offers bamboo fencing, a product popular with many customers for installation around pools.
"We are trying to promote it as a new product," he said.
The natural gas industry, he said, has provided him with a lot of business, but he's hardly limited to that client base. The business, he said, is not without its challenges - from complying with codes of different municipalities to simply installing the fences.
"We are in a rocky area, so digging is tough around here," he explained.
Lycoming Fence Co. is a member of the West Branch Builders Association.
