It's one thing to celebrate your own class reunion and longtime friends. It's another thing to come together to just celebrate your high school and the memories made there.
That's exactly what Williamsport Area High School alumni will have the opportunity to do this spring, as the WASD Alumni Association will host its first all-alumni gathering, "Millionaire Mingle," from 8 to 11 p.m. on April 26 at 33 East.
Bathed in the atmosphere of the downtown Williamsport restaurant at 33 East Third St., which donated the space for the event, it not only will be a night of fun, friendship and dancing over complimentary hors d'oeuvres and music, but also a culmination of a year's work to help reconnect and engage WAHS graduates.
Formed in the spring of 2012, the association has been working to build its presence among current and future alumni.
Last fall, it awarded its first Distinguished Alumni Award to the celebrated former Lycoming College football coach Frank Girardi, class of 1957; established the first Alumni Tent at homecoming; provided refreshments for the Strolling Strings 25th Anniversary Concert at the Community Arts Center; hosted a New York City bus trip; and most recently launched a Career Cafe program at the high school, where professional alumni speak to interested students about their field of work over lunch.
"This event will bring former classmates together to help celebrate our establishment as an association and to get them together again as Millionaires," said Susan Swank-Caschera, alumni association president and 1978 grad.
"We've been working to expand our reach and launch new initiatives that target the interests of our alumni as well as help support our future alumni at the high school level."
Attendees of the April 26 event can expect to see old high school memorabilia, photos and publications, as well as have a chance to win a few raffle prizes. Music will be provided by Datman Productions.
"Anyone who would like to provide or donate high school memorabilia for display that evening are more than welcome to contact us," Swank-Caschera said.
While the event is free to WAHS graduates, registration is required by April 19. WAHS graduates who bring non-alumni as guests will require a $10 fee for that person(s). Registration forms are available on the Alumni Association's website, www.wasd.org/alumni, or at the alumni office, 2780 W. Fourth St.
