MUNCY - Muncy Historical Society will open its 2013 season with "Civil War Service of Seven Brothers" presentation and an introduction of nominees for the society's board of directors.
Two nominees for board positions will be formally announced at the 2:30 p.m. March 10 meeting. They are Karen Dilcher and Bill Poulton. Dilcher is a new candidate while Poulton has served on the board in previous years.
Pending members' approval, the nominees will join co-board members Thomas Breneisen, Dennis Chestnut, Steve Fairchild, Kathy Heilman, Robert Olmstead, Nella Storm and Judith Youngman. Jane Cotner, Bonnie Gardner and Paul Regard are society trustees.
Following the board elections, Stanley Zellers will describe the Civil War service of seven brothers from Union County, one of whom was his great-great grandfather. Zellers, who presents in Civil War-era attire, will share photos, maps and Civil War artifacts during his presentation. He will highlight some of their most interesting military encounters which he carefully researched, documented and included in a yet-unpublished biography of the brothers' experiences.
The society's meetings and events always are open to the public. Museum tours begin at 1:30 p.m. on meeting days and light refreshments are served immediately following the program in the colonial kitchen.
