Mary E. Bowers, 102, Pine Creek Junction, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at her residence.
She was born in Collomsville, on Oct. 2, 1910, one of 12 children of John and Elizabeth Hughes Willits. She was married to William I. Bowers, who passed away June 12, 1974. She was a member of Phelps Chapel United Methodist Church of Pine Creek for nearly 80 years. Everyone knew "the lady on the lawnmower down the road."
Her survivors include two sons, Kenneth E. Bowers (Carlene), of Jersey Shore, Gary W. Bowers (Jean), of Jersey Shore; daughter, Kathryn E. Welshans, of Jersey Shore; two sisters, Millie Boatman, Avis, Helen of Calif.; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a son, William G. Bowers.
Mary's Life Celebration will begin with a visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at Phelps Chapel Untied Methodist Church, 68 Phelps Road, Jersey Shore. Services will follow at 11 a.m., with her pastor, Catherine R. Dawes, officiating. Interment in Jersey Shore Cemetery will be at her family's convenience. Her family suggests contributions be made to Phelps Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home," of Jersey Shore, is handling arrangements.
