Fearing that "the world was going to end" on Dec. 21, a Cogan Station man stole his grandfather's pickup truck and drove it to the Elmira, N.Y., area so that he could "pick up his children and save them," Old Lycoming Township police alleged in court papers.
Nolan Gregory Proctor, 28, of 832 Spook Hollow Road, stole Paul Smith's truck from 36 Spook Hollow Road in Hepburn Township on Dec. 22, police said.
Proctor was arrested the next day in Chemung County, N.Y., on a theft warrant shortly after Smith reported the truck stolen, police said.
Proctor has since been brought back here to face township police charges of theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.
Following his arraignment before District Judge James H. Sortman, he was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bail.
