The 2013 Winter Court of Honor for Troop 38 took place in the St. Ann Roman Catholic Church basement.
Two scouts received rank advancements and 10 merit badges were awarded. In addition, a number of Scouts received special awards.
The master of ceremonies for the event was Alec Lakatos. Advancement Chair Karen Kilpatrick and Scoutmaster Mark Caviston presented the awards.
Simeon Krizan was awarded the rank of Tenderfoot, the earliest step on the Trail to Eagle. Zachary Geffre received the Second Class Scout rank.
Merit badges were awarded to Nicholas Adams, Citizenship In World, Personal Management and Weather; Patrick Hiller, Personal Fitness; Dylan MacKenzie, Fishing; Evan Painton, Reading; and Riley Weber, Indian Lore, Personal Fitness, Personal Management and Shotgun Shooting.
Six Scouts were recognized for having achieved the Boy Scouts of America High Adventure Triple Crown Award; Giacomo DiNicola, Eagle Scout; Ben Caviston, Eagle Scout; Andru McCusker, Eagle Scout; Andy Heilmann, Life Scout; Riley Weber, Eagle Scout; and Adam Fellon, Eagle Scout. Each participated in all three of the Boy Scouts National High Adventure Treks: Sea Base in the Florida Keys, Northern Tier Canoe Base in Ely, Minn., and Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M. They were presented with a framed memorial of their achievement.
Scouts Jared Beare, Aaron Bird, Zachary Kilpatrick, Dylan MacKenzie and Stefan Weber received their Fireman's Chit. Zachary Geffre and Simeon Krizan were awarded their Totin' Chip.
Troop 38 had a record year with seven boys achieving the rank of Eagle Scout during 2012. Adam Fellon, Kurt Hiller, Bryan Patel, Andru McCusker, Giacomo DiNicola, Jay Hiller and Riley Weber all earned Scouting's highest award Eagle Scout in 2012.
The Scouts of Troop 38 had a very active year by participating in seven weekend campouts, six hiking days, two rock climbing outings, a week at Camp K for summer camp and a High Adventure week at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
Troop 38 meets in the basement of St. Ann's Church Religious Education Center (former convent) at 7 p.m. the first three Tuesdays of the month. Boys ages 11 to 17 can join the Troop by stopping by at any of the scheduled meetings. More information is available at Troop 38's website, troop38pa.org.
