High school fire allegedly arson

February 13, 2013
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

A 16-year-old Williamsport Area High School student has been arrested on arson-related charges in connection with Monday's small fire in a boy's restroom at the school, city police said.

Toilet paper inside a plastic dispenser was set on fire about 10:50 a.m, fire officials said. Two teachers quickly doused the fire, which still resulted in about $500 worth of smoke damage.

The teenager will petitioned into juvenile court on charges of arson, recklessly endangering and criminal mischief, police said, adding that he has been turned over to juvenile probation officers and committed to a juvenile detention center in Wellsboro.

Police said high school staff were instrumental solving the case.
