A city man who confessed to collecting $25,380 in unemployment money while he was working waived his preliminary hearing to Lycoming County Court.
Brian B. Sampson, 40, of 105 Keller Loop Road, was unemployed prior to January 2010 and began to lawfully receive unemployment benefits, but when he became employed at Textron, he continued to fill out and sign paperwork or electronically file to collect benefits, according to county Detective Kenneth Mains.
"It was easy to get," he told police during an interview last month.
Arraigned before Judge Gary A. Whiteman on Jan. 31, who set bail at $15,000, Sampson waived a preliminary hearing on charges of theft by unlawful taking, unsworn falsifications and theft by deception. Sampson's next court appearance will be at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 25.
