Get into nature journaling at preserve

WASHINGTONVILLE - Ever consider recording what you see in nature? Take this opportunity to learn more about nature journaling from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at PPL's Montour Environmental Preserve.

Keeping track of nature is something you can do all year long. Just because it's winter doesn't mean you can't make and record nature observations. In winter, nature is pared down to its bare bones, making it easier to observe aspects you might not notice at other times of the year.

We'll start with a brief discussion about nature journaling and observation, then go outdoors to make some observations. Dress for the weather and time outdoors. Bring a notebook and pencil - or a camera, if you prefer - to record your observations.

The free program will take place at the Environmental Education Center. For directions, visit www.pplpreserves.com and click on "Montour." For more information, contact the preserve at 437-3131 or jdbeam@pplweb.com.

Those who wish to operate a personal watercraft (jet ski) or those born after Jan. 1, 1982, who operate a boat with a 25-horsepower or larger motor are required by law to have completed a recognized boating course.

A fee will cover the cost of the book and advance registration is necessary.

Feb. 15 is the deadline for people who create and/or maintain at least 10 acres of young forest habitat on their lands to apply for state and federal financial assistance opportunities.
