No. 1 Nittany Lions lose at Iowa

The top-ranked Penn State wrestling team dropped its first dual meet of the year, falling 22-16 at No. 3 Iowa in a sold out Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa won 6 of 10 bouts, including three thrilling one-point decisions in the dual's key match-ups.

While Iowa won six of ten bouts, Penn State owned a 22-13 lead in takedowns. The loss snapped a 20-dual win streak for Penn State.

Penn State trailed 13-0 until Central Mountain graduate Andrew Alton won a 18-8 major decision over Brody Grothus. Brother Dylan Alton lost 4-3 to Iowa's top-ranked Derek St. John.

Other winners for Penn State were David Taylor at 165, Ed Ruth at 184, and Quentin Wright at 197.

Bobby Telford beat Jon Gingrich 9-2 at 285 pounds to clinch the victory for Iowa.
