ACLS recertification offered
WELLSBORO - A one-day recertification Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) class for registered nurses, physicians and paramedics will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday in the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital conference room.
The ACLS Provider Course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation-ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest.

Susquehanna Health will hold the following events to provide health information and benefit the community:
Carbohydrate Counting Class - 1:30 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Feb. 7 at The Diabetes and Nutrition Care Center, third floor, Divine Providence Hospital. Learn the basics of carbohydrate counting, what foods have carbs, good carbs vs. bad carbs and how to plan meals and snacks that promote weight loss and blood sugar control. A referral from your physician is required prior to taking the class and the fee is determined by insurance co-pay amount. For more information, call 326-8410.
Walkin' & Rockin' with Dani - Mondays beginning Feb. 4, 11 to 11:45 a.m. at The LifeCenter in the Lycoming Mall, Pennsdale. A power walking and strength building program for individuals at any fitness level will be led by fitness instructor Dani Sayah, of Step by Step Walk Fitness, a fitness company specializing in indoor power walks. Walkers move at their own pace during a two-mile indoor walking program. Participants should bring a small towel and water bottle and wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Evangelical holds free screenings
LEWISBURG - Community Health Education at Evangelical Community Hospital will hold the following screenings through February:
Comprehensive Blood Screen - 8-10 a.m. Feb. 5 at the Susquehanna Valley Mall Community Zone. For a low fee, get results for a lipid panel (HDL, LDL, total cholesterol and triglycerides), complete blood count, and CMP (blood sugar, electrolytes, calcium, protein, liver enzymes etc.). Other tests available upon request. Appointments required. Call 768-3200.
Heart Screen - 7-10 a.m. Feb. 14 at the Community Health Education Center. Appointment required. Screenings include: lipid panel (good, bad, and total cholesterol levels, triglycerides), blood pressure, body composition, cardiac risk assessment, blood oxygen saturation, and stroke assessments. Results will be reviewed by a physician and mailed to you. A 12-hour fast is required prior to the appointment.
Free Heel Scan Clinic - 1-3 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Community Health Education Center. You qualify if you have not had a DXA scan in the past two years, have not had a heel bone density test in the past year and meet one of the following criteria: over the age of 65, post menopausal or pre-menopausal with high risk factors. Appointments required.
Blood Pressure Screenings - 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 1, Mifflinburg Bank and Trust, Lewisburg branch; Mondays, 9 a.m.-noon, Wednesdays, noon-4 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Community Health Education Center, Route 15, Lewisburg.

Extension offers 'Strong Women' classes
The Penn State Cooperative Extension Office in Loyalsock Township will hold "Strong Women" classes from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Feb. 7 through May 9. A fee applies.
Women who are motivated to increase their physical activity, reduce their risk of osteoporosis, increase muscle tone and flexibility, improve balance and do something special for themselves are encouraged to sign up. The program is appropriate for both sedentary and very active women. Men also may register.
The benefits of strength training for women include increased muscle mass and strength; improved bone density and reduced risk for osteoporosis and related fractures; reduced risk for diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, depression and obesity; improved self-confidence, sleep and vitality.
Attendees should bring at least one adjustable ankle weight of 5 or 10 pounds; at least one set of dumbbells of 1, 3 or 5 pounds; a regular-size bath towel; and water to drink. Bottles of water may be used in place of hand weights. Adjustable ankle weights may also be worn on the wrists. Those who are not active may start without weights.

Electronics bingo planned
The Bulldog Cancer Chompers Relay for Life Team will hold an electronics bingo on Feb. 10 at the Antes Fort Fire Hall. Doors open at noon and play begins at 1 p.m.
Advance tickets are $20 and tickets at the door are $25. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.
Prizes include iPad, iPad mini, 32-inch TV, Wii and many others.
