Ruth Elizabeth Lyons, 81, of Hughesville, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services.
Mrs. Lyons was born Oct. 3, 1931, in Alvira, a daughter of the late Jonathan T. and Roberta (Stout) Doane.
June 27, 1969, she married the late Thurman D. Lyons, Sr., who died September 9, 1986.
Ruth was a member of the Hughesville Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for over 50 years. She graduated from Hughesville High School, class of 1949, and from the Philadelphia School of Nursing, class of 1961. She had most recently worked for Lowe's Super Duper, of Clarkstown. Earlier in life she had worked for Sprout Waldron, Muncy, the former Montgomery Mills Manufacturing as a secretary and at Trout Pond Park. Ruth was an avid bowler.
She is survived by two step-sons, Roger E. Lyons of Hillsboro, N.H., and Emerson Lyons Sr., Keene, N.H.; five step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Brandie, Emerson, Jayme and Justin; seven step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Wilma M. Nevel of Hughesville, and Grace Lucille Plotts of Watsontown.
Ruth was preceded in death by a step-son, Thurman Lyons Jr.; and two brothers, John Mahlon Doane and George Henry Doane.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, by Rev. Thomas Brokaw. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hughesville Baptist Church, Building Fund, 37 N.
